Pool with a View
I nitially a blank canvas, this scheme has been truly sculpted from the Salisbury landscape to create the sweeping lawns and terraces that now define this garden.
The brief required a full-sized tennis court that did not dominate, as well as a large swimming pool generous enough for a growing family and all of their friends! Throughout the extensive excavations we salvaged an impressive haul of natural flint and used this to create the low retaining walls enclosing the pool terrace and the main steps leading from the house. There was even enough left over for two flintwork sculptures either side of the pool springboard!
Poolside a Mediterranean feel is secured with the use of Juniperus Sky Rockets – more tolerant of the exposed conditions than the traditional Italian Cypress. Cordoned fruit trees drip over polytunnel hoops offering a inventive and bountiful archway entrance to the pool area. An ephemeral swathe of grasses and prairie perennials screen the tennis court from the pool, whilst the terrace doors of the family room open onto a cool, white, scented courtyard.
We designed and created this garden nearly six years ago and have been maintaining ever since. Salisbury is a long way for us to go – but if you saw this garden you would perhaps understand why!
